Call to Action: The Unified Government, (UG), of Wyandotte County is preparing to raise the Real Estate Tax Levy for 2026 and Residents Must Speak Out

July 4, 2025

Dear Reader,

We have a Time Sensitive situation.

Call to Action

Problem:

The Unified Government, (UG), of Wyandotte County is preparing to raise the Real Estate Tax Levy for 2026 for All of Wyandotte County.

If you own a house or property your taxes will go up again.

If you rent in Wyandotte County, your landlord’s taxes will go up, and so will your rent.

My name is Fred Postlewait, lifelong resident of Wyandotte County. I’m a retired Systems Administrator.

Real Estate Taxes in WyCo have been going up every year, except 2025.

Last year, August 2024, we, the residents of WyCo., convinced the UG of WyCo. to stay “Revenue Neutral,” meaning they couldn’t raise Real Estate taxes for 2025.

However, three weeks ago some Commissioners of the UG indicated they were wanting to exceed Revenue Neutral for the coming year, which means raising Real Estate Taxes.

This involves 2 procedural items to be attended to:

  1. A financial Audit of the UG
  2. A public hearing of the topic.

A date of July 10 was proposed, but the UG has done little to inform the public of the time and nature of the meeting.

Item – 1. It has been learned that a Financial Audit has been completed but has not been released to the public.

Item – 2. It has been shared that the County Administrator is secretly planning to have private
individual meetings with the Commissioners
to discuss backroom plans on the mill levy increase, to be voted on at the July 10th revenue neutral hearing.

If you don’t want your Real Estate taxes increased in 2026, we need your support.

How to:
1. Be at the KCK City Hall, First Floor, downtown KCK 701 N. 7th St Tfwy., on Thursday July 10 at 7 PM. Voice your thoughts to the City Commissioners.

If you wish, make your own sign saying, “NO More Taxes” or
“Stay at Revenue Neutral”

2. Send your commissioner, or all of them, an email about staying
“Revenue Neutral” (meaning not collecting a single dollar more in ad valorem taxes than they did last year.)

Commissioner names and emails are located here:

https://www.wycokck.org/Government/Elected-Officials/Board-of-Commissioners

3. Send the County Clerk, Monica Sparks, an email clerkwest@wycokck.org

Tell here to read out loud your email and name into the Record at the July 10th Commissioners meeting. Tell the commissioners that you stand for “revenue neutral” in 2026, out loud and for the record.
