Faith – Family – Freedom
The last eight words in our Declaration of Independence, a document that forever changed the world in which we live, were bold and courageous; “Our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.“
They went on to say….”We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Over time, we have gradually allowed too much power to be consolidated into the hands of too few people in our government, and it has cost us time and time again. Whether it is in Washington DC or right here in Johnson County…public officials are often distant from the people they represent. As your representative, I do not believe in blind trust.
I believe in accountability and results. Your voice matters more than unelected bureaucrats.
James Madison had this to say about government power…
“Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.”
Jefferson concluded…“When the representative body have lost the confidence of their constituents, when they have notoriously made sale of their most valuable rights, when they have assumed to themselves powers which the people never put into their hands, then indeed their continuing in office becomes dangerous to the state.”
It is time for BOLD and COURAGEOUS servant leadership in Johnson County. We must return the power back to the people. The next generation is counting on us.
