Females and Democrats received more mail ballots than other groups the first few days

The Kansas Secretary of State on Wednesday started releasing daily summaries of advance mail ballot requests for the Aug. 4 primary election.
The chase begins using this data by many political activists to get mail ballots returned, or to get their people to the polls on election day.
This is the first election with the 50% price increase for the “advance voting public service request.” Statewide voter files and advance data service now cost $300 from the Secretary of State. County data is also available from county election offices.
The Advance voting files come in three flavors for those subscribing:
- The “Sent” file lists all voters being mailed ballots.
- The “Return” file lists voters returning ballots by mail. [In theory, a subset of the Sent.]
- The “In Person” file lists voters for ballots cast on-site at county advance sites.
These files from the Secretary of State are cumulative, showing new running totals every day.
Sent Ballots
Here’s a daily summary of the number of advance ballots sent, with a breakdown by party and gender.
The follow breakdowns reflect the sent ballot data from Friday:
Gender breakdown
Almost 64% of the mail ballots were to females, which is an early edge of nearly 13,500 ballots for female voters.
Party breakdown
In the early mail ballots Democrats received about 47% vs. 41% for Republicans, with about 11% to Unaffiliated. That’s an early 2800 ballot lead for Democrats.
Age interval breakdown
The first day of mail ballots includes voters with a “Permanent Advance Voting Status,” so that includes a number of elderly.
The 85+ age group received more ballots than any other age interval.

Gender by Age
Females for all age intervals received more ballots than males the first few days.
Male voters are a minority in Kansas. May 2026 voter registration data shows nearly 90,000 more female voters in Kansas than males.
This is curious since a look at US Census data says there are more males than females in all age intervals under 65 in Kansas.
Party by Age
Democrats have an edge in early mail ballots sent for all age intervals under 80. Only above 80 did more Republican voters have an edge.
Returned Ballots
On day one 19 counties reporting receiving ballots back the same day they were sent. By Friday 30 counties reported receiving ballots.
In Person Ballots
I’m not sure how the 105 counties handle in-person voting, but 29 counties reported on Thursday the start of in person voting.
